Geometry is full of multiplying and dividing: area is length times width, a figure scaled by a factor multiplies every side, and splitting a segment into equal parts is division. When those operations are automatic, you get to spend your attention on the geometry instead of the arithmetic. This card sharpens the facts and the multi-digit moves until they're sure.

  1. What & why

    Multiplication is repeated addition — 4×34 \times 3 is four groups of three — and it's also how we scale: doubling a length is ×2\times 2. Division is the inverse: it splits a total into equal groups, or asks how many groups fit.

    They're two sides of one fact. Because 6×8=486 \times 8 = 48, you instantly know 48÷6=848 \div 6 = 8 and 48÷8=648 \div 8 = 6. Every division question is really a multiplication question in disguise: "this divisor times what gives the dividend?" Hold that link and the two operations reinforce each other instead of being two things to memorize.

  2. Watch how it works

    Multi-digit multiplication is just smaller facts, added up. Break a factor apart by place value. Take 23×1423 \times 14:

    23×14=(23×10)+(23×4)=230+92=32223 \times 14 = (23 \times 10) + (23 \times 4) = 230 + 92 = 322

    You only ever multiply by single digits and tens — the place-value split does the rest.

    Division reaches for the matching fact. Take 144÷9144 \div 9. Don't search blindly; ask "99 times what makes 144144?" Since 9×16=1449 \times 16 = 144, the answer is 1616.

    144÷9=16144 \div 9 = 16

  3. Reason through one together

    Real problems often hand you a division that doesn't come out even — and then the situation decides what to do with the leftover.

    Make a prediction: A baker packs 8 muffins per box and has 100 muffins. How many FULL boxes can she fill?
